Tre kinesiske flådefartøjer er netop nået til Adenbugten. Her skal de være en del af en international specialstyrke, der skal bekæmpe pirater på de mest benyttede transportveje langs den somaliske kyst. Flådens opgave er at beskytte kinesiske skibe, der fragter humanitær hjælp til internationale organisationer. Afviger Kina fra sin ikke-inblandingspolitik ved at deltage i en international anti-piratoperation?

Skibene, som lagde fra Kina den 26. december, har netop nået bestemmelsesstedet. Det er første gang i århundreder, at kinesiske krigsskibe sejler så langt væk hjemmefra, noterer magasinet Globe and Mail sig. På missionens første dag lykkedes det flåden at skærme et skib med kinesisk besætning fra et angreb fra fire piratbåde, rapporterer China Daily. Krigsskibene vil i de første dage ledsage yderligere 11 kinesiske handelsfartøjer forbi Somalias kyst, skriver Xinhua.

Iføglge BBC er det første gang, at den kinesiske flåde har deltaget i en operation uden for Stillehavet. Traditionelt har Kina haft en politik om ikke at blande sig i andre landes interne anliggender. Denne operation imod pirateri kolliderer dog ikke med dette princip, da Somalia selv har indbudt dem, skriver Globe and Mail. Analytikere peger dog på, at visse asiatiske nationer kan være foruroligede over Kinas indblanding, da det kan ses som et tegn på, at det kinesiske militær bliver mere aggresivt, fortæller Washington Post. Sidste år blev flere end 100 skibe, heraf syv kinesiske, angrebet af pirater på transportruterne syd for Yemen, nord for Somalia og i det Indiske Ocean øst for Somalia.
